California Highway Patrol and it’s community partners team up for annual Chips for Kids toy delivery in Logan Heights

As part of the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) annual CHiPs for Kids Program, families and children from the Logan Heights area will receive free toys at this holiday event. Several CHP patrol cars loaded with toys will arrive at 10:30 AM to kick-off the festivities and toy distribution. Members of the California Highway Patrol, the San Diego Gulls, the Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians, and the NFL Alumni Association-San Diego Chapter will visit with the children, help with the toy distribution and pose for photos. The toys were collected as part of the month long Chips for Kids toy drive with the help from Walgreens, Red Robin, Waste Management, Bereavision, the Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians and the NFL Alumni Association-San Diego Chapter. *The Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians and the NFL Alumni Association-San Diego Chapter will be delivering 34 bicycles at this year’s event.*

The CHiPs for Kids Program toy drive campaign is a Community Outreach Program that has been in existence for 28 years. During the past 28 years, the CHiPs for Kids Program has had a positive impact on children hospitalized during the holidays and also brought a brighter holiday season for underprivileged children. As you may know, most contact that officers have with the public involve arrests for criminal offences, traffic violations, or traffic collisions. The CHiPs for Kids Program allows officers to meet the public and to build positive relationships with children. It also serves as an opportunity to educate the community about the dangers of drinking and driving, distracted diver awareness, and the benefits of seatbelt compliance.
